FUNGI FOREST

2019.10~2019.11

Fungi forest is an experimental lighting art installation exploring the relationship between nature, technology, and synthetic products.

The inspiration is from fungi which represent the strongest symbol of life flourishing in the forest. Visible light is an important source of energy and information for much of life. Though fungi are neither photosynthetic nor capable of observing adjacent objects, it is estimated that the majority of fungal species display some form of light response, ranging from developmental decision making to metabolic reprogramming to pathogenesis.  So I combine the fabric and illumination creating a kind of  artificial creature to mimics the information from the forest.

The work also can be seen as a critical yet utopian vision on the future of our planet, where the synthetic fabric replaces the feeling of natural creatures.
